This is an exciting time for the citizens of Wilmington, North Carolina as we prepare for the commissioning of the Submarine North Carolina SSN-777. The commissioning will occur Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the North Carolina State Ports for an expected 5,000 guests. Attendees will include government officials, members of the United States Navy, VIPs, and local guests.
This historic and time-honored event will be accompanied by several events and ceremonies prior to the ceremony. In April, keep an eye out for the Submarine Float during the Azalea Festival Parade and the ship's crew visiting schools and civic organizations in the area. Week of events include a 5k Race for the crew, Sponsor's luncheon, Mayor's reception, Platform Party Breakfast, Commissioning Ceremony and Post Commissioning Reception to name a few.
Taking a part in a commissioning ceremony is a rare and unique opportunity. Our commitment is to make the commissioning of the Submarine North Carolina SSN777 the most memorable and historic event in our City's history.
